Winter Concert Sunday,
December 6, 2009 2:30pm –
4:00pm First
Baptist Church 1866
Ridge Road, Grass Valley, CA Band’s Winter Concert with a Planet and a Few Vacuum
Cleaners Too The
50-piece Nevada County Concert Band will perform an indoor concert that
everyone can enjoy. The Winter
Concert will open with the brass fanfare "Omnium Gatherum,” which aptly
represents the mix of songs, instruments, and musical types that will be
performed. In
addition to holiday favorites like “Do You Hear What I Hear,” the band will
also feature “Jupiter” from Holst’s “The Planets” suite. “A Grand Grand Overture” features
The Hoover Quartet playing four vacuum cleaners with the band. This
virtuostic guest quartet includes Patsy and Ben Hannebrink (local
accordian/bass duet extraordinaire, among other things), John Frantz
(instrumental music teacher at Lyman Gilmore Middle School), and David Lynn
(music teacher at Union Hill School). Small
groups from within the band will also perform, such as a flute duet and a
clarinet choir. The brass
quintet will play a jazzy “Jingle Bells” as well as Irving Berlin’s
“Alexander’s Ragtime Band.”
Other favorite pieces include Leroy Anderson’s beautiful “A Trumpeter’s
Lullaby,” and Leonard Bernstein’s silly “The Wrong Note Rag” from the musical
production “Wonderful Town.” This
is a family-friendly concert, with free snacks served at intermission. Donations (non-profit) are gratefully
accepted.
